Challenge
In today's fast-paced world, people struggle to consume news due to limited attention spans and information overload. Traditional news apps often require significant time investment and can be overwhelming. This case study explores the design of "Sorted," a news app addressing these challenges by offering quick, digestible content in a user-friendly and immersive format.

Design Principles
Sorted was designed with the following core principles in mind:
- Zero Learning: The user interface prioritizes intuitive interactions that are easy to understand without prior training. The app minimizes text reliance, making it accessible for a global audience consuming news in various formats (articles, photos, videos, audio) and languages (14).
- Language Less: Visual cues and clear information hierarchy guide users through the app, reducing the need for extensive text instructions. This approach caters to a diverse audience with varying levels of language proficiency.
- Lean Design: A streamlined design ensures compatibility across various devices, operating systems, and network conditions. This makes Sorted accessible to a wider user base with diverse technological resources.
- Immersive Consumption: Sorted fosters an engaging news consumption experience. Ads are integrated seamlessly to feel natural and add value rather than disrupt the user flow.
- Flat Information Architecture: A flat information structure simplifies navigation, allowing users to access the news they're looking for quickly and efficiently, regardless of their prior knowledge of news app layouts.
My Role
As the sole designer on the initial project launch, I played a crucial role in:
- Understanding User Needs: Collaborated with India.com stakeholders (a Zee product) to understand user pain points and expectations.
- Research and Analysis: Conducted secondary research and internal stakeholder interviews to define the product's target audience and market fit (product-market fit research was outsourced).
- Wireframing and Iteration: Created and iterated on wireframes, defining the app's visual hierarchy and user flow.
